Why I made time to receive Reiki

I initially made time to receive a Reiki treatment with Sarah in 2017. I booked a session for a variety of different reasons; one was that I needed extra self-care. I had been diagnosed with bipolar 11 disorder and under the supervision of my health-care providers, had chosen not to take medication to manage it. Back then I managed okay, but I didn’t engage in good self-care practises. I also experienced significant shifts in mood and emotional states, as well as foggy thinking. These were largely attributed to the diagnosis I’d received.

How I felt better after my first Reiki treatment and why I enrolled in Reiki Level One

After my first Reiki treatment with Sarah, I  noticed that I was calmer and more grounded. I appreciated Sarah’s non-judgemental and safe healing space. I’d been interested in spirituality for a long time. I wanted to enhance my spiritual connection and I recognised that I wanted to be more physically, mentally and emotionally balanced so I enrolled in Reiki Level One.

How I benefitted from learning Reiki

One of the best things about Reiki Level One was learning how to practise Reiki myself. One of the first things people noticed about me after I completed Reiki Level One was that I looked clearer and happier. Since 2017 my self-Reiki practice has helped me in different ways. Initially, I didn’t practice as regularly as I do now but over time I’ve been able to maintain a fairly regular practice.

My self-Reiki practice keeps me spiritually connected. I find that incorporating the Reiki principles into my day helps to keep me grounded. For me, the Reiki principles are a core conceptual framework that promote respect towards others while maintaining a healthy sense of self.

During my Reiki training, I was taught meditation techniques that Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki practiced. During Reiki Level One we learnt Gassho meditation and I still practise this today. This meditation encourages me to focus on my breath and that:

– stills my busy mind

– makes me more aware of what’s happening in my body

– brings me back to the present moment.

In Reiki Level One Sarah also taught energy building and clearing exercises which are an additional self-care tool to my self-Reiki practise.

During Reiki Level Two and Reiki Level 3a we learnt and were attuned to use vibrational healing tools. The process of connecting with these tools is an ongoing and rewarding one for me. I incorporate the tools when I practise Reiki on myself.  The tools create a shift in me and I notice that I’m more grateful and more energised when I use them.

Since Reiki Level Two and Reiki Level 3a I’ve shared Reiki in the wider community both professionally and with my friends and family. It’s great to be able to support my family in a very positive and healing manner. Being able to share Reiki with others has deepened my connection to Reiki and instigated a period of personal growth and transformation.

My experience with Distant Reiki

Although I’ve learnt to practise Reiki on myself I still seek support from Sarah when I need to. Together we’ve worked on:

– reducing musculoskeletal pain,
– managing gynaecological related pain,
– managing anxiety and stress
– low energy levels
– nicotine cessation goals
– developing compassion for myself and others

I’ve also sought other complementary practitioners and conventional medical care to manage these conditions.

There have been times when I’ve had limited capacity to attend Reiki treatments in person so Distant Reiki treatments have been invaluable in helping me to feel better. Sarah’s Distant Reiki treatments have been very convenient for me when I required extra support and self-care. They’ve:

– relaxed my mind,
– reduced physical pain and
– allowed me to gain clarity, and then take action when I’m faced with challenging life situations.

How I stay connected to a Reiki community

I enjoyed attending Reiki Level One, Two and 3a in person. During the training, I found making friends and connecting with other students to be very beneficial.  I’ve kept in contact with other Reiki students and we support each other on our Reiki journeys.  Sarah’s 21-day e-courses are also fantastic. I’ve purchased all of them. The Reiki e-courses are:

– a cost-effective,
– convenient and
– an easy-to-use platform

that fully support me in my daily Reiki practice at home. There are also free monthly online Reiki groups. These are also beneficial and are another good way to stay connected to Reiki. I join in when I can.

Seven years on…

I’m so grateful that Reiki is an integral part of my spiritual practice, self-development journey, and self-actualization process.  Having Reiki in my life has helped me to cope with physical and mental illness. I’m grateful and pleased to say that:

– I  cope better with adverse life circumstances
– I’ve been able to achieve greater mental clarity which has enabled me to positive changes in my life
– there are more spiritually congruent spaces in my mind, and this congruency is now reflected in my outer world as well.

I know that I’ll continue to feel better and better. I also know that I’ll continue my regular self-Reiki practice. I also hope to work again with Reiki professionally and offer Reiki in a volunteer capacity later in 2024, as a way to give back to the community.
