How Reiki Supports The Nervous System

Modern life can leave your nervous system constantly under pressure. Work demands, family responsibilities, illness, grief, poor sleep and life changes can make you overwhelmed, exhausted and unable to switch off.

You could be looking for a:

–Reiki treatment in Melbourne,
– Distant Reiki treatment, or a
– traditional Usui Reiki practitioner

because you

– are burnt out,
– are recovering from illness or surgery,
– are navigating a significant life change, or
– want to feel better and improve your health and wellbeing.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an effective Japanese spiritual healing practice that supports your whole being: body, mind, and spirit. Reiki treatment and Reiki practice don’t necessarily replace medical care; they complement it. After receiving or practising Reiki, you tend to be more balanced and better able to cope with the demands of daily life.

Whether you receive Reiki in Melbourne or experience Distant Reiki from the convenience of your own home, the intention is the same: to support your body’s natural healing process and overall wellbeing.

Understanding your nervous system

Your nervous system gathers information from your surroundings and decides how your body should respond.

When you feel safe and at ease, you’re better able to:
– rest,
– digest food,
– repair tissues,
– think clearly and
– sleep well.

When you’re under stress, your nervous system prepares you to respond. This is a normal and healthy response in the short term, but prolonged stress can leave you physically and emotionally depleted.

You can experience:

– Racing thoughts
– A sense of constantly being “on alert”
– Poor sleep
– Increased muscle tension and physical pain
– Emotional overwhelm
– Reduced ability to cope with everyday life

Many people seek Reiki treatments in Melbourne, Distant Reiki treatments or Reiki courses in Melbourne because they recognise the need to restore balance and create an optimum environment for healing.

How Reiki creates an optimum environment for healing

Reiki is administered by a Reiki practitioner directly touching your body, with their hands held over your body, or from a distance.

Every Reiki treatment is different. You may notice warmth, coolness, or tingling, or nothing during the treatment itself. There is no right or wrong experience.

Reiki practice doesn’t force change. Reiki practice offers a quiet opportunity for the body and mind to settle. The benefits of Reiki treatment and practice can be experienced right away or can unfold over the following days.

Reiki research

Research into Reiki continues to evolve. Studies show that Reiki promotes the relaxation response, reduces stress and improves wellbeing. More high-quality research is needed, and greater funding would help strengthen the evidence base. Even so, the current research is encouraging. Reiki is widely viewed as a complementary healing practice that supports the body’s natural healing processes alongside appropriate healthcare.

Reiki creates healing and supports your wellbeing

After Reiki treatment, you can experience:

– Deeper sleep
– Greater emotional balance
– Improved mental clarity and focus
– A renewed sense of wellbeing
– Coping better with life’s challenges

Every Reiki treatment is unique. The healing you receive is guided by your needs, which may be different from those of your family members or friends.

Reiki is a holistic approach

Reiki is most effective when viewed as one part of an overall approach to your wellbeing.

Many of my clients create better health by also:

– Maintaining good sleep hygiene
– Exercising
– Spending time in nature
– Eating nourishing food
– Connecting with supportive people
– Seeking advice from healthcare practitioners

Reiki F.A.Q.’s

Are Distant Reiki treatments as effective as in-person Reiki treatments?

Since 2002, I’ve offered Distant Reiki to clients throughout Australia and around the world. Over more than two decades of practice, I’ve found Distant Reiki to be just as effective as in-person treatments. You don’t need to be physically present to receive the benefits of Reiki. Many people appreciate receiving treatment from the convenience of their home, office or hotel. Learn more…

Just as with in-person treatments, every treatment is different. Some of my clients notice warmth or other sensations during the session, while others don’t. Whether your treatment is in person or at a distance, Reiki improves your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Why do I sometimes fall asleep during Reiki?

It’s quite common for people to fall asleep during an in-person Reiki treatment or Distant Reiki treatment.

You can arrive carrying months or years of accumulated imbalances, and once you feel safe, you central nervous system naturally settles. Sleeping during Reiki doesn’t lessen the benefit of treatment; in fact, it can enhance it.

Reiki treatment is just as effective whether you remain awake or asleep.

I don’t feel anything during Reiki treatments? Is that normal?

Yes, absolutely. You can notice warmth, coolness, or tingling during Reiki treatment. Or you may not notice any physical sensations during the treatment. Neither experience is better than the other.

Rather than focusing on sensations during your Reiki treatment, I encourage you to notice how you feel afterwards and over the following days. Has your sleep improved? Are you less reactive? Is your thinking clearer? Are you coping better with your challenges? Healing can unfold subtly.

Can Reiki complement other treatments I’m receiving?

Yes. Reiki is an integrative practice. You can receive Reiki treatment alongside conventional medical care and other health treatments.

I’ve supported many people with Reiki treatment in Melbourne or from a Distance:

– pre and post- surgery,
– when they are managing chronic health conditions,
– receiving counselling, or
– navigating emotionally challenging times.

Reiki does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment; it complements it. I encourage my clients to continue following the advice of their GP and other healthcare practitioners.

Many of my clients find Reiki treatment and/or practice becomes a valuable part of their overall health plan, promoting better health and wellbeing.
