Navigating hormonal shifts: How Reiki supports P.M.T., peri-me
nopause, and menopause
Did you know that Reiki treatments and a regular self-Reiki practice can help you manage the most challenging aspects of pre-menstrual syndrome (P.M.T.), perimenopause, and menopause?
Pain, irritability, fatigue, weight gain, fluid retention, hot flashes, anxiety, depression, and interrupted sleep can all be part of this natural cycle of change. If you are currently affected by one or more of these, read on to discover how Reiki can help you feel better, regain balance, and empower your health journey.
How can Reiki help PMS, ovulation, and period pain?
Reiki balances the central nervous system. The nervous system and the endocrine (hormonal) system are intricately connected, and balancing one directly benefits the other.
The endocrine system is responsible for secreting hormones throughout your body. When your central nervous system is balanced and out of “fight-or-flight” mode, your endocrine system can regulate itself more effectively, stabilising hormonal spikes and crashes, easing pain, fatigue and anxiety.
Easing ovulation, P.M.S., and period pain with Reiki
It is common to experience discomfort when you ovulate, P.M.S. before your period, and pain during the first few days of your period. This is often accompanied by:
- Lower energy levels
- Disturbed sleep
- Digestive changes (such as constipation or diarrhea)
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (T.C.M.), these are all viewed as part of the same underlying pattern or imbalance.
The good news? Reiki treatments, a dedicated self-Reiki practice, and lifestyle adjustments can significantly reduce these unpleasant experiences. You can feel better, ensuring your monthly cycle no longer causes a significant disruption to your wellbeing.
A personal, professional, and scientific journey to relief with Reiki
Since 2008, I have supported clients in professional practice to reduce their P.M.S. experience, ease period pain, stabilise their digestion and improve their energy levels with Reiki treatment and lifestyle guidance.
On a personal note, I too used to experience slight pain from ovulation. I also used to experience menstrual cramps that would wake me up in the middle of the night a few days before my period began or be present on the first day of my cycle. Although I wasn’t a fan of painkillers, I sometimes took them to get through the first day of my cycle.
What the science says about Reiki and period pain
Please don’t just take my word for it. Scientific research also suggests that Reiki eases dysmenorrhea (period pain). A randomised, placebo-controlled study looked at the effects of Reiki on adolescents experiencing painful periods. With 38 patients in the Reiki group and 37 in the control group, the study concluded that Reiki was effective in reducing both pain and fatigue. A larger study sample would be better, but it’s a start.
What changed for me? I learned Reiki.
After my training, whenever I woke up in the night with menstrual cramps, I simply placed my hands on my abdomen, and the pain would ease. Over time, combining regular self-Reiki with lifestyle adjustments completely transformed my cycle. The severe pain dissolved into a mild, barely noticeable discomfort, and I never needed painkillers to manage period-related pain again.
Embracing your menstrual cycle
Another life-changing concept I learned during my Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies training (which is rooted in T.C.M.) is the importance of honouring the time right before and during your period. Rather than a burden, these can be sacred times, ripe with healing opportunities and intuitive insights if we slow down to listen to our bodies. Needless to say, I’m grateful for my self-Reiki practice and T.C.M. knowledge, and how they have eased this area of my life.
Would you like support to feel better in this area of your life, too? You can receive Reiki treatment either in-person or remotely to help ease menstrual cycle challenges, or learn Reiki and practice it on yourself to create a more balanced menstrual cycle.
