You may be confused over what Reiki actually is, (for a description of Reiki please visit here).
One of the primary reasons this confusion exists is because Reiki practitioners and teaches often add extra components to their treatments and classes.
For example, many practitioners incorporate chakras, crystals and intuitive readings into a Reiki treatment. These are add ons to a standard Reiki treatment and are not part of the traditional system of Reiki taught by Mikao Usui. They may be valid additions to Reiki practise but it’s important for us to understand what Reiki is.
Mikao Usui developed Reiki, translating to Universal Life Force Energy, as a spiritual healing system in approximately 1920. It originates from Japan and includes:
- Hands on treatments
- Energy enhancing exercises and tools
- Life principles
Whereas the chakra system originates from India and was first mentioned in the vedas – the Hindu holy books. Each of the major chakras has a different location, purpose and colour. The chakras are briefly mentioned and treated during Restore Naturally Reiki Level One courses because they are located in the same position as the traditional Reiki hand positions. Plus they add an extra dimension to healing.
Crystals are another common addition to Reiki treatments. Whilst they may contain beautiful healing properties they are an add on to what Mikao Usui practised.
Reiki increases your connection to yourself and others.
So, it cannot but increase your intuitive abilities. This is a wonderful gift that Reiki creates in your life.
However, intuitive insights shared by a Reiki practitioner are not part of a standard Reiki treatment. Whilst intuitive insights can be valid, they can also create unnecessary confusion in professional practise. When you receive Reiki you connect deeply to yourself and something greater than yourself which you are intrinsically a part of. So, is extra intuitive guidance provided by a Reiki practitioner really necessary? I don’t think so.
During Restore Naturally Reiki treatments and courses any additional techniques are clearly highlighted so you clearly understand what is part of the traditional system of Reiki and what is a beneficial addition to the practise.
I hope this helps. Enjoy your Reiki practice.
“A long time ago I did a Reiki course and had not really practiced Reiki afterwards because that course left me unsure about using the Reiki healing system. I am so glad I re-did the Level One Reiki with Sarah. Sarah gave us a very clear and easy to use handbook, which provided a great framework for the course…by the end of the weekend I felt like I had finally understood the Reiki system and how to use it. Sarah teaches with a lot of wisdom and heart – she is a wonderful teacher and guide.” – Nicole S., Mentone, Melbourne
